Today, I’m thankful for the heat. The last few days in my area have been sticky, humid, and hot. Now, let me be honest. I’m not thankful because I like the oppressive heat. I really don’t. However, today I remember a moment with one of my shepherds at a previous congregation. It was raining and I was complaining. He said, “I’m thankful for the rain.” “Really?” I responded, “Is that because it feeds the ground and helps the crops.” “No,” he said. “It’s because I can’t do anything about it so I might as well learn to be thankful for it.” So, today, I’m thankful for the heat.
My goal today is to be thankful for everything God brings my way. His grace is sufficient for me. Everything He lets me face, He can and will use for my ultimate good and for His ultimate glory. My goal is to grow to be thankful even for the thorns.
Holy God, what You give me is good. Every gift of Yours is good. I don’t always see it in the moment. Help me accept all things that come from Your hand. Grow thanksgiving in me even for the circumstances and situations I don’t like. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.
