Today, I’m thankful for a day of sobriety. Isn’t that really the most we can be thankful for? Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow never comes. I have today. And today, I’m sober. I once heard a fellow in a recovery group claim the guy with the longest sobriety was the one who had awakened the earliest today. I think there is truth to that. One day at a time. Today, I’m sober. Praise the Lord!
My goal today is to be sober. No matter what. Whatever life throws at me, compulsion, addiction, sin will not help. Even if my butt falls off (an old recovery mantra), I don’t need to act out today. I thank God for that truth also.
Great God, my sober days are because of You. Thank You for days of sobriety. Strengthen me to hang on throughout today. Give me work to do and people to serve that I may glorify You instead of pursue sin and addiction. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.
