Today, I’m thankful for family time. My oldest daughter has now married and moved out. My oldest son for the first time is spending part of his holidays away from the family (going to spend them with his college girlfriend). I’m getting to that point where those kids I thought would never leave are actually leaving. And while I’m glad that they are getting to branch out to new phases of life. I also miss them. So, today, I’m thankful for the moments we get to spend together because they are starting to be farther apart. I was near my older son the other day and was able to say, “Hey, how about you and your girlfriend go to McDs with me.” They agreed. It was great. Most mornings, I still get to play games with my youngest daughter. I’m realizing that will come to an end, so I’m glad when it gets to happen now.
My goal is to make the most of the time together. I don’t want to overthink it and try to act like somehow I’m going to manufacture quality time. However, I want to be completely present in those moments when we are together. I’m going to put the phone away. Turn the tv off. Just be there. That’s my goal.
Holy God, thank You for my family. Thank You for their health. Thank You for the time we get to spend together. Help me be present. Help me lead and point to You. I’m all Yours today; do with me as You will today.
