Today, I’m thankful for coffee. Granted, coffee doesn’t help me overcome my sins or addictions. It doesn’t help me deal with depression or compulsion. And certainly, if it causes you problems with any of those things, I’m sorry. But today I’m thankful for the little pleasures. It makes me realize God made this world to be beautiful and enjoyable to us. He could have made it drab and pleasureless, but He didn’t. Yes, I far too often let the pleasures take over and pervert God’s good gifts. But today, I’m thankful that God has given me good things, even small things like coffee.
My goal today is to keep God’s gifts in perspective. God’s gifts make amazing tools, but terrible masters. I want to enjoy God’s gifts as that–gifts. But I want to pursue God more than I pursue His gifts today.
Glorious God, thank You for Your gifts large and small. Thank You for Your spiritual gifts and Your material gifts. You have provided an amazing world to live in with pleasures great and small. Help me steward these gifts in a way that brings glory to You and serves Your people. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.
