Okay, I know it is silly. But today, I’m thankful for a beard. Sometimes we need to not take ourselves so seriously and be thankful for tiny things. For the first time in years, I’m trying to grow a beard. I’ve never been patient enough to make it through the itchy phase to see if it would work. So I’ve always thought I really couldn’t grow one. I’ve been super jealous of others with nice beards. But, I’m motivated, and it is getting there. (Doesn’t look anything like the attached picture.) Who knows? In a week, I may be sick of it and shave the whole thing off. But today I like it and want to be thankful for this small thing. I’m sure in the big scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. And if it wasn’t working, I’d be just as thankful to shave. But I’m thankful to experiment and enjoy the option while it lasts.
My goal today is to not act out or pursue any kind of procrastinating escape mechanism. I will especially avoid every sinful escape mechanism. Even if my backside falls off, I don’t need to act out or sin. My goal is to rely on God for strength and empowerment to live victoriously.
Almighty God, strengthen me today and this week to live for You. Empower me to overcome temptation, to defeat the roaring lion, to conquer the evil one. Thank You for the grace of Your crucified and resurrected Son. I’m all Yours today; do with me as You will.
