Today, I’m thankful for school. My high schooler started back to school yesterday. My college students will be heading back this Saturday. My homeschooling sixth-grader has a couple of weeks before her co-op classes start, but she and her mother have been working all summer off and on. In any event, whether it has been through home school, public school, or college, I’m thankful for school. I know I got a lot out of it when I was going through it. My kids have been helped tremendously. Sure, there are negatives no matter which approach we take. However, it is learning. And I love learning. Not to mention, this year it gets a couple of my kids out of the house for a little bit. I love ’em, but I’m ready for that too.
My goal today is to keep learning even though I’m not in school. My other goal is to be a support to my kids as they continue in school. I want to support without controlling, and give freedom without neglecting. That will be a good balance to strike this year.
Almighty God, watch over my children in their learning today and this year. Help me provide the appropriate support while giving the appropriate independence that will help them grow and mature to adulthood. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.
