Today, I’m thankful for a day of sobriety. Sometimes I get bogged down in how long I’ve been (or haven’t been sober) or how long I want to be sober in the future. These thoughts always lead me away from sobriety. Sobriety is one day at a time. I love the idea that the one among us who has had the longest sobriety is the one who woke up the earliest this morning. I’m sober today. That is what matters.
My goal today is to be sober today. I don’t have to be sober tomorrow yet. I don’t have to be sober next week yet. I don’t have to be sober a year from now yet. I just want to be sober today. That’s my goal.
Dear God, grant me sobriety today. I am pursuing sobriety, but I know sobriety comes from you. Lead me away from temptation. Deliver me from the devil and sin. Guide me by Your powerful right hand. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.
