Today, I’m thankful for opportunities to be of service. The root of all my problems is selfishness. I focus on me and my convenience way too much. What I need is the opportunity to get out of myself. Yesterday, I got to spend hours with some friends listening and supporting. It took time out of my day from other work that was pressing. I needed the opportunity to serve though. I needed to be forced to think about others. Whether it is a time like that or serving my family by cleaning up after dinner or putting my book down or pausing my tv show to go reach something on a high shelf for one of my kids, I need to be reminded that the world doesn’t revolve around me. I need to serve. I’m thankful for opportunities.
My goal today is to keep my eyes open. Those opportunities to serve are all around me, but most of the time I have my blinders on. My goal is then to take at least one opportunity I see to serve.
Almighty God, Your Son is a powerful example to me of a servant. Make me a servant, just like Your Son. Do not let me grasp my station of self-centered arrogance, but rather empty me of self. Humble me. Fill me with the mind of Your Son Jesus. I am all Yours today, do with me as You will.
