This week, I’m traveling. I’m staying out in the middle of nowhere. Which is cool because it is right beside a river. However, it means my connection to cell coverage and WiFi is really spotty. I’m able to get on now, but since I’m not sure I’ll be able to connect the rest of the week, I’ll only be making this one post this week.

Today, I’m thankful for examples. I’m thankful for the people God brings into my life to show me how it is supposed to be done. I’m not a very relational person. I’m a bit of an introvert. Sure, if you get me talking, show interest, and get me on a topic I enjoy, I won’t shut up. But most of the time, I’ll just sit quietly, listen to everyone else talk, and then go home. That isn’t all bad. However, it doesn’t really develop strong relationships and it doesn’t show the kind of support I know folks need. This week, where I’m preaching, God has plopped in front of me someone who is, as far as I can see, a king of relationships. He loves and is loved. It is obvious. I’ve seen him love and care for his wife, who is dealing with a life-threatening illness. I’ve seen him love his son, the last of four still in school. I’ve seen him love the brothers and sisters in the congregation. It has been a breath of fresh air and a needed reminder that my work isn’t all done in an office. I’m thankful for examples.

My goal is to pay attention. I’ve got a few more days here. I want to soak it in. I want to take it back. I know I’ve got things I’m good at. But I need to improve in other areas. My goal is to shine this same light of love and relationship when I get home with my family and with my church family.

God of love, thank You for bringing people into my life that show me where I need to grow. Keep my eyes open. Do not let this feeling pass. Grow me to love others and to show it. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.

Please, in order to encourage your fellow travelers, share your gratitude, goals, and prayers in the comments section below.
