Today, I am thankful for assignments. That is, I have been asked to do some special topics for some other congregations and teaching opportunities. In some ways, they are a huge hassle. They aren’t necessarily what is on my heart and mind to study right now. It’s also tough to make something soar in my own heart and mind when I’m not pursuing it because of my own desire. However, I have to admit that each one of them has helped me in ways I didn’t imagine. So, today, I’m thankful for those who have assigned me topics and passages. I don’t know if the lessons will help the hearers as much as the study has helped me, but I’m thankful.
My goal today is to grow in my faith. The most recent assignment I had was the “one faith” from Ephesians 4:6. I want to grow in my faith in the Lord because it saves, grants access to God, connects me to other Christians, matures me and my congregation, changes me, and protects me. At least, that is what Ephesians demonstrates about that one faith. My goal today is to grow my faith. Oh yeah, and to get to work on my next assignment–writing a lecture about the Parable of the Sower.
Great God in heaven, thank You for Your Word. I know by this point it probably shouldn’t surprise me anymore with its greatness, its depth, its applicability. But it does. Always give me the motivation to study, whether I have a special assignment, a sermon, a class, a study or not. Fill me with Your Word. I am all Yours today; do with me as You will.
