Today, I’m thankful for broken appliances (and for appliances that work). For the last month, our dishwasher and our clothes dryer have both been broken. The dishwasher has been a pain, but it has just meant we have to wash by hand. The clothes dryer, on the other hand, is a different story. We are drowning in laundry. We are about to set up a clothesline in the back yard or across the house or something. As frustrating as the broken appliances are, having this time without them has actually given me insight into how good we have it. We have a refrigerator that keeps our food cold. An oven that cooks it easily. Machines that wash and dry our clothes and our dishes. It really is pretty amazing.
My goal today is to keep being thankful. Rather than spiraling in frustration because my property manager and landlord haven’t gotten these fixed in a month. God really is blessing me. I don’t have a right to appliances and luxurious ease. Today, I want to keep looking on that positive thankful side.
Gracious God, appliances are cool. However, even better than that is the fact that You have saved me by the blood of Jesus. Whether my life is easy or hard (and, having to wash dishes by hand and hang clothes on a line is still very easy living), You are still my God and Savior. Thank You. I’m all Yours today; do with me as You will.
