Psalm 119:89-96 (NKJV)
Forever, O Lord,
Your word is settled in heaven.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
You established the earth, and it abides.
They continue this day according to Your ordinances,
For all are Your servants.
Unless Your law had been my delight,
I would then have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget Your precepts,
For by them You have given me life.
I am Yours, save me;
For I have sought Your precepts.
The wicked wait for me to destroy me,
But I will consider Your testimonies.
I have seen the consummation of all perfection,
But Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Death has been on my mind a lot lately. In the last 6 months, we have watched friends, brethren, have to say goodbye to loved ones 7 times, some families losing more than one member within just a month or so time. In a season like this, it is only natural to dwell more on the temporal nature of this life. But as death – either of myself or of those I love – has been a frequent trigger of anxiety for me, I have been working harder than usual to not let myself spiral down that hole. I think that’s one reason why I am finding such encouragement in this section’s reminder of the eternal nature of God’s word and His faithfulness. I don’t know – can’t know – what the days ahead hold for myself and those I hold dear, but I do know that God’s promises and His love will stand no matter what.
